At the end of his second set a fan approaches Santos and starts a conversation. Santos Puertas senses that at some point in the conversation he is going to be asked:
-Where are you from? Why do you speak english with an accent? …
Santos is the perfect example that the music chooses you.
When one listens to Santos Puertas singing and playing American music, it’s hard to believe that he was born in a small town called Sant Just Desvern, on the outskirts of Barcelona, Spain.
In the year 2000 Santos crossed the pond for the first time and went to Austin, TX. He made a bunch of musician friends and felt very welcome in the blues scene.
After the first trip to Austin, TX in 2000, Santos continued going back until in the summer of 2003, when he joined the soul singer Miss Lavelle White’s band and toured with her in Texas.
Santos lived in Texas, USA for eight years.
Santos has opened and/or jammed with many blues artists such as: Hubert Sumlin, Bob Margolin, Hook Herrera, Steve James, Gary Primich, Nick Curran, John Cephas & Phil Wiggins, Paul Rishell & Annie Raines, and Hash Brown, among many others
Santos has recorded and/or played with Jerry Portnoy, Paul Oscher, Miss Lavelle White, Joel Foy, Christian Dozzler, Fred Kaplan, Mike Morgan, Jim Suhler and Nathan James, among others.
For more than twenty years Santos has dedicated his talent to play Americana, blues, and roots music and has become a respected player and stellar performer.

Al final del segundo pase en un club de Austin, TX un fan se acerca a Santos e inicia una conversación. A Santos Puertas no le sorprende que en algún momento de la conversación se le pregunte:
-¿De dónde eres? ¿Por qué hablas inglés con acento? …
Santos es un buen ejemplo de que es la música la que le elige a uno.
Cuando uno escucha a Santos Puertas cantando y tocando música americana, se le hace difícil creer que haya nacido en un pequeño pueblo llamado Sant Just Desvern, en las afueras de Barcelona, España.
En el año 2000 Santos cruzó el charco por primera vez y fue a Austin, TX. Hizo un montón de amigos músicos y se sintió muy a gusto en la escena del blues.
Después del primer viaje a Austin, TX en el año 2000, Santos siguió yendo y viniendo de EEUU hasta que en el verano de 2003, se unió a la banda de la cantante de soul Miss Lavelle White y giró con ella por el estado de Texas.
Santos ha residido en TX, EEUU durante ocho años.
Santos ha abierto y/o compartido escenario con artistas de blues como:
Hubert Sumlin, Bob Margolin, Steve James, Gary Primich, Nick Curran, John Cephas y Phil Wiggins, Paul Rishell y Annie Raines y Hash Brown, y R J Mischo entre otros.

Durante más de veinte años Santos ha dedicado su talento a la música Americana, blues y música de raíces y se ha convertido en un músico e interprete respetado.

“The blues is the most primitive music, the most direct, the one that everyone carries inside without knowing it, it’s the heartbeat. You don’t need to understand anything, just feel it.” The Suitcase Brothers are known for their ability to play the blues with a thrill and expressiveness that is not easy to find. They are Santos Puertas on guitar and vocals, and Víctor Puertas on harmonica and vocals. The duo was born in 1999 and for more than 20 years they have often been compared to Sony Terry and Brownie McGhee. In 2014 the Puertas brothers won the first prize in the competition organised by the PBPS (Piedmont Blues Preservation Society) in Greensboro, North Carolina (USA), home of the Piedmont and the harmonica player Sonny Terry. Their previous fourth record, A Long Way From Home was the best acoustic blues album of 2014 according to the prestigious music magazine Wasser-Prawda and was nominated for Best Indie Blues Album of the Year 2015 in Memphis, TN. An album that, once again, captures the purest essence of the genre and that features two Chicago blues legends: Jerry Portnoy (Muddy Waters and Eric Capton) and Paul Oscher (Muddy Waters). The Puertas brothers are also co-authors for the soundtrack for the Spanish film El Bola, starring Juan José Ballesta and directed by Achero Mañas, a film that won 4 Goyas (Spanish Oscars). One of the songs is entitled ‘Hermanos Puertas’. Acclaimed both nationally and internationally, The Suitcase Brothers have established themselves as one of the best blues duos on the scene today thanks to their ability to bring the genre alive, to make us connect with that primal, genuine emotion, to make us experience the very beat of the blues.
